On the Trail of
Dedicated to St Margaret of Antioch, the lovely parish church at Ockley is now open for discovery by visitors of all ages.
Lady Hester Touche and Briony and Dick Thomas, undertook the task of
researching the history and architecture of their church to design a
trail which, although aimed at younger visitors between 8 and 12 years
old, will surely appeal to adults too.
Cranleigh DFAS is delighted to sponsor the trail, which takes you on a
tour, inside and out, looking high and low, to find the treasures of
history, architecture and furnishings all around.
trail launch was celebrated in March when pupils of Scott Broadwood
Infant School, accompanied by their Headteacher, Rebecca Bacon,
followed the trail question sheet around the Church and its grounds
seeking answers to the clues. Also present were the Reverend
Nigel Knights Johnson, vicar of St Margaret’s; our chairman, John
Baker; and the chairman of the Friends of St Margaret’s, Gordon
Lee-Steere. His connections to the church are personal, indeed,
as two of his ancestors are commemorated within.
you’re looking for something to occupy a lovely summer’s day, why don’t
you take the children along to try the trail out for yourself.
